Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are usually associated with art and collections, but how do we use NFTs for real life, tangible purposes in applications that heal the Earth, bring people together and educate others on how to use Web3 tech?
Syd Harvey Griffith, co-founder of Permatours and part of the operations of Regen Garden, talks with Better Worlds about the work they are doing with new economic tools to create and incentivize regenerative practices. Permatours is a permaculture action and sustainable construction tour of events kicked off by SEEDS to provide a currency, Seeds tokens, to buy goods and services from each other in a circular economy. The group, which has on-boarded hundreds of players across the country, has traveled the Northeast and is now working in the midwest. Their time is spent not only in construction and action on land projects and food production, but also in educating people on Web3 tech, how they can participate in SEEDS and create their own circular economies and tokenomics. Regen Garden is one Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) using “In Real Life” (IRL) NFTS for tangible purposes.
Regen Garden helps mission-driven projects fundraise and co-create with their community by providing blockchain infrastructure that offers transparent value distribution. Syd joined SEEDS about two years ago to begin to live out her own dreams for a better world. She focused on events that foster opportunities for people to practice their art, share resources, build community, and acquire the skills needed to survive and thrive, including regenerative food production and construction (using permaculture and natural farming principles). This calling guided her to apply for a Seeds cryptocurrency grant - awarded to her to co-found Permatours, a learn-by-doing permaculture-action and sustainable construction tour across the northeast of the U.S.. Contributors of Permatours’ regenerative projects are rewarded Seeds cryptocurrency for their efforts, which they can use to buy products and services from each other. Permatours has accomplished over 40 projects and the tour has expanded to include serving throughout the midwest and internationally.
A native of Boston, currently Syd is residing and working with the LaLa Gardens Cooperative to support its membership development, marketing, and sales, Web3 integration (tokenomics and NFTs), website copy, forming strategic partnerships, and event planning, production, and hosting.
