It’s all-hands-on-deck if we are to turn the tide. In this episode of Blue Pioneers, Host Kat Bruce spoke with Cain, the founder/CEO CreditNature & Ecosulis, about his goal to rewild half the planet by 2050. Blythe explains his rewilding goal is to get degraded ecosystems on a measurable trajectory of recovery within that timeframe. It’s an important role for human ecosystem engineers to jumpstart the process in heavily degraded areas before letting nature take over. Rewilding focuses on restoring an area's mammal fauna and megafauna, then allowing them to do the heavy lifting of regenerating the ecosystem over long time periods. A key aspect is stepping back and giving nature the space to recover and heal itself.
Cain is hopeful, noting that once we allow nature to do its thing, nature can find its way back quickly. From oyster reefs to wetlands to the return of large fauna, healing happens fast when we give nature the chance.
