This is post 5 of 7 and is a recap from the DMRV Roundtable organized by ReFi DAO as part of ReFi Spring Series of Events
Frederic Fournier is the CEO and Co-founder of Open Forest Protocol where he is creating a unique and effective open-source platform to measure, verify and fund carbon projects in a transparent manner.
Frederic and OFP have developed three products in the MRV space. The first is a dashboard where projects can register their zoning areas and provide details on their current efforts and long-term goals. After that, OFP will use this land to generate sample plots in-line with CDM methodology. Project operators can then assign field agents to actually go into the forest and report the trees in each of those central zones using the OFP mobile app. Over time, this will generate a complete data set throughout the lifespan of the project.
Their Second project is a map for those field agents that are gathering data in their sample block using general geolocation. Once the information is gathered, it's uploaded to the dashboard. OFP has a network of different validators that will have a 30 day window to vote on the legitimacy of the ground data. This verification process will ultimately, be stored on the blockchain and the forestation projects will gain full transparency and trust, enabling operators access to carbon financing.
DMRV or digital monitoring reporting and verification is an important part of the global response to climate change, enabling countries to meet international requirements around carbon credits, biodiversity, certification, and progress towards goals. This event is made up of various organizations in the space.
